Sega got it right with the Dreamcast, but I’m guessing poor business decisions combined with Sonys PS2 * DVD player hype train killed it off like a kamehameha to the head.Īh, what the DC could of been. One of the best VG related decisions I ever made 😛 I had a pretty decent time with it, but ultimately sold it and put it towards a PS1 just a month after it released.

terrible saturn NA logo redesign, inferior NA saturn controller, sega coming out of nowhere and releasing saturn that very same day and saying it’s “everywhere” when in reality there was a supply shortage, plus not enough focus on bringing over Saturns key 2D titles from Japan. $100 too expensive, under powered 3D visuals, ugly game cases. Bulky, drained too much battery life and I hated that Gamegear look and sound.Īnd of course, the disaster that was NA Saturn, which I actually purchased at launch.
Then there’s The battery draining sega Nomad…I never liked my game gear either unfortunately. Sega was excessively releasing accessories or add ons to one up the competition aka Nintendo, and it started to become a bit of a desperate mess It came out at an odd time just before the Saturn Was about to pave the way.

Why should I need one Genesis and set of controllers connected to my TV for Sonic 1&2 and a bunch of spin-offs and another Genesis for Sonic CD and probably others, for example? HDMI ports and physical space aren't exactly unlimited, and convenience sharply declines as those two resources become exhausted.Įdit: And I know Sonic 3 & Knuckles are not mentioned, but I used them as an example due to the possiblity as Sonic Origins draws near, and the fact that they can be seen as multiple separate entries on top of several games in the series already on the current model. So far it looks like they are going the route of having this one stand out on its own with unique games not on the original model, but honestly, I wish they would just put everything on the first model on here too, but expand the list with more, unique titles. I don't know what to think about this just yet.

would this be worth it? How much overlap in games will there be between the two models? Will I need two Genesis Minis just to get the whole experience (Mini 1 for Sonic 1&2 Mini 2 for Sonic 3, Knuckles, 3&K), or will this one feature a more complete library making the original more obsolete and overall better? Or will the new system just focus more on providing games that really weren't a part of the original model, making it more of a potential worthwhile buy even for owners of the original console, assuming its full and final list of games is worth it? I already have the original Genesis Mini. I personally don't know what to think of this, and I'll hold off until more is known, including more of the included games.
